July 2019 - Cast Away
Cast Away
Song #98!!
These were some lyrics I had written in my little black book, lyrics about traveling across Canada once again to visit family.
The song describes the journey, by ferry and plane, visiting friends and family on the other side of the country, and it brings in some ideas about what "home" means.
I've had a lot of "homes" in my day, physical homes, I've probably moved 30 times in my life, though many times in the same city. In Bella Coola I moved four times, in Courtenay, two times. Now I've lived in one "home" in Halfmoon Bay for 5 years, the longest I've ever lived in one physical home.
I can't even remember how many different places I lived in Vancouver. Many.
But home can also mean wherever you find your personal, private and safe place. It doesn't matter where you are, there's always a sense of "home" wherever you find yourself. Maybe a hotel room when you're on a trip, maybe a tent in the mountains when you're camping for a few days.

Cast Away
Cast away, going far away.
Sail away, then fly away, so far away.
Cast away, far away home.
Sailing across this small and waving sea
Riding the ferry, the Surrey Queen
Day is rising bright, skies so clear and blue
And I'm travelling so many miles, to be with you, be with you.
Cast away, going far away.
Sail away, then fly away, so far away.
Cast away, far away home.
Flying far across this wide and open land
To far eastern shores of ocean and sand.
Memories return, home so long ago
And I'm travelling so high above the clouds, from coast to coast, coast to coast.
Cast away, going far away.
Sail away, then fly away, so far away.
Cast away, far away home.
Everyday routine is gone, time stretches wide
Hours are lost and gone on the other side
Staying for a while, with friends and family
Then I'm travelling back the other way, homeward free, homeward free.
No matter where you go, that's where you find your home.
No matter where you are, that's where you find your heart,
That's where you find your heart.
Cast away, going far away.
Sail away, then fly away, so far away.
Cast away, far away home.
