August: You Hold Me Hostage
You Hold Me Hostage
Song #99
Yes, only one more song to go in my write 100 songs before I turn 60 challenge. Three days to finish the task, as I'll be on the road on the 14th.
This song is about my noisy neighbour who thinks it's OK to play his music as loud as he wants for as long as he wants, whenever he wants. This ridiculous behaviour also extends to having parties, either in the back yard or on his side deck, and playing music with a light show inside his fucking tacky mansion. OK, there is so much more I could say about the fuck-wit asshole, but I'll leave it at that, cause this is about the song!!
The reason I wrote this song is because I often feel like a hostage in my own home, and there is no way to escape the music and noise, even inside my own home. I can close all the windows and doors, and put in ear plugs, and sometimes that's enough to block it out. There's no guarantee that I'll be able to sit on the deck, work in the garden, or go to bed without the horrible music playing next door and totally overwhelming my little house and my personal space.
The plan for this song is to write parts for violin and viola, since the neighbours on the other side of fuck-wit are retired musicians, and they share in my anger against the onslaught of music and parties.
For piano (violin and viola) in A minor.
You Hold Me Hostage
You hold me hostage, there is no refuge, from the deluge.
You hold me hostage, there is no refuge, from the deluge.
Music washes over me in relentless, endless waves
Nowhere to get away from the noise and the thumping bass
Stealing all the quiet, you are a noisy thief
Everyday the same, you keep disturbing all the peace.
You hold me hostage, there is no refuge, from the deluge.
You hold me hostage, there is no refuge, from the deluge.
Music blaring all day long, for hours without end
You don't care what people say, it's your rights you defend
So much noise, can't sleep at night, there's no hope for escape
Midnight, pounding on your door, now please cooperate.
You hold me hostage, there is no refuge, from the deluge.
You hold me hostage, there is no refuge, from the deluge.
Music parties, lots of beer, the noise just never disappears
Batten down, cut out the sound, put earplugs in my ears
One small man, a heavy hand, controls the volume dial
Anger builds, it burns inside, and steals away my smile.
You hold me hostage, there is no refuge, from the deluge.
You hold me hostage, there is no refuge, from the deluge.
